As we reflect on the past and compare different cultures and ethnicity and comprehend why humanity is so fucked up, I on the other hand compare humanity with the animal kingdom. Since we're such a highly emotionally species and over examine every possible detail to how things are, we are no different than the animals that are around us. Not to be a hippie and tell everyone that not only did we steal the land from the Native Americans but are also stealing the land from the squirrels, but to state that we are no different from animals in the terms of territory expansion.
The best subject that I can use to best represent that territory expansion is not only a human act would have to be with the lions in Africa. I'm sure everyone has watched Animal Planet or the Discovery Channel as a kid, or perhaps recently when bored and nothing else is on, and know how lions live since documentaries on lion prides are constantly aired. But just to over examine a little bit, here's a mini bio of a male lion's lifestyle:
Just to do a reality spinoff on Disney for the fuck of it, Simba is happy with his new pride that he just took away from Scar. It's only a matter of time, most likely years, till a new contender comes into the picture and wants what Simba has. This new contender, Scar Jr., is young and wants to make a home for himself. He crosses over Simba's borders and challenges Simba for his pride. Of course Simba doesn't want to hand over his pride so he defends what he has. Since Scar Jr. is younger and Simba is old, Scar Jr. would win the fight, probably. The defeated Simba leaves his pride in shame as Scar Jr. kills off his offspring to start his own family with Simba's lionesses. With Simba too old to start off a new pride, he'll die alone.
Sad story but true. Let's be realists, life isn't a Disney film. Especially with Pocahontas, in the back of my mind I scream out to Pocahontas "No, you're gonna kill your people!" as I sing along to "Colors of the Wind." It's unfortunate what has happened in the past with the Native Americans but the way I see it, it had to happen to someone. I'm not saying the Indians got what was coming to them, but due to their lack of technology, they didn't stand a chance against the new white shelters. Thank God humanity has gained some sense since then and we are not so compelled to take over every country and kill off everyone who occupies them. Now we just buy land. But it's all for the benefit of the family and success of the people that we expand. So when we discuss how fucked up people are in the sense of being heartless and cold, it's all natural. Animals fight for larger territory every day. People are not so different. "Damn nature! You scary."
